Louis E. Ingelhart Scholars + The Facing Project

The Louis E. Ingelhart Scholars program, a two-semester leadership + media curriculum under the direction of Dr. Kuban, has worked with The Facing Project and relevant community partners to chronicle personal testimonies of human strife, struggle and strength. Every iteration leads to book publication and distribution, multimedia deliverables as well as scholarly objectives such as peer-reviewed conference presentations — for students, faculty and community partners! Each iteration also involves students from Theatre and Communication Studies for a community event that features these stories, which has attracted between 300-400 citizens in the past. Several service-related outcomes have resulted, including one student’s acceptance as an Honorary Member of the Board of Directors for Cancer Services of East Central Indiana – Little Red Door.

I think it’s important for us as Ball State students to hear from people in the community because Ball State is our campus but Muncie is also our home. And I think it’s important that we hear the stories of these residents and also that our Muncie community hears the stories of its own peers.”

– Dagny Zupin, student (Facing Cancer in East Central Indiana)
